NIPSCO customers can expect natural gas bill to go up this winter

Get ready to pay a little more this winter.

NIPSCO‘s projecting the average customer to pay $78 more for home heating this winter, according to the Elkhart Truth.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration is showing a 22 percent increase for natural gas customers nationwide from November through March. The projection is based on higher natural gas costs and an average winter in the forecast.

It’s unfortunate news for customers who remember last winter. Home heating costs were the cheapest in the 2015-2016 winter due to low energy prices and warmer-than-expected weather.

NIPSCO is affirming that it makes no profit on the cost of natural gas billed to customers, and that the increased projection isn’t a mark-up.
