No Charges Filed In S. Whitley Shooting

No charges have been filed in the death of Adam Porter, who was shot Aug. 14 in the backyard of David Hagan’s property at 229 West Buckeye St., South Whitley.
Whitley County prosecuting attorney Matt Rentschler said Monday the case is still under investigation and he is waiting for investigatory reports from the state police.
“We’re hoping for some kind of resolution in the near future,” Rentschler said.
According to a prior press release from the prosecuting attorney’s office, on Aug. 14 police responded to an emergency call from a neighbor around 8:30 p.m. and found Porter’s body in Hagan’s yard, dead from a gunshot wound. Hagan claimed the shooting was in self defense, according to the release. Hagan was initially booked into the Whitley County Jail and released the next day.
The initial Whitley County Coroner’s report indicates the cause of death was a gunshot wound and the manner of death a homicide.
