No injuries in fire on Winona Ave.

Occupants of a residence that caught fire this morning reported burns to their hair, but no serious injuries.

Warsaw–Wayne Fire Territory responded to a fire at 2:31 a.m. early Monday at 502 W. Winona Avenue in Warsaw.

The residents called 911 after they became aware of the fire and evacuated the residence. The occupants reported burns to their hair, according to a press release from the department.

According to the Kosciusko County government website, the property is owned by  Ralph and Joellen Fitch, Larwill. The names of the occupants have not been released by the fire territory.

The firefighters arrived on the scene and saw fire coming through the windows and heavy smoke coming from the second story. Firefighters made entry through the front door. Firefighters fought the blaze from the ground level, keeping the fire contained so that the entry crew could put the fire out from the inside, the release said.

The fire was put out within a half hour. The residence has smoke and heat damage to the second floor. The fire began in the bedroom.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation but believed to be accident, the release said.

Winona Lake Department assisted putting out the blaze. Luthern EMS, Warsaw Police and American Red Cross also responded to the scene.
