Non-Profit group assists with search for missing South Whitley man

SOUTH WHITLEY – A non–profit search and rescue team began searching for a missing South Whitley man Friday.

Marcus Wolfe, 20, disappeared July 25 driving home from his mother’s house in Columbia City. Tammy Wolfe, who has been trying to find her son, brought in the charity organization to assist with the search. Jodi Powers Search and Rescue Technologies is a non–profit organization based in Kentucky that helps people search for missing loved ones.

On Friday, volunteers from Jodi Powers, along with the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department, searched lakes and ponds for Marcus using sonar. The search of the lake and ponds was unsuccessful, however, today they will use drones to search “properties of interest” for Marcus.

Belinda Powers said she started Jodi Powers Search and Rescue after her 19-year-old daughter, Jodi,  went missing in 2010 in western Kentucky. Her daughter was found deceased 26 days later and no cause of death was ever determined.

“There was no search teams in our area, so we got together and started one,” she said.
Since then, the group has gone all over the country, helping people search for missing family members. She said the group is funded from donations.

Tammy Wolfe said it’s been a living hell not knowing what happened to her son.  “If he had been killed in an accident I would go through a grieving period, but I would  know what happened to him,” Wolfe said.

Jodi Powers Search and Rescue Technologies can be reached on its Facebook page. Anyone with information on the disappearance of Marcus Wolfe can call the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department at 260-244-6410, Option 1.
