North Manchester Man Killed In Grain Bin Accident

A North Manchester man died Monday afternoon after falling into a grain bin.

Wabash County Central Dispatch received a call at 1:22 p.m. Monday of a possible grain bin entrapment at 8479 N. Ind. 13, North Manchester.

First responders were on scene within four minuters of the call, according to Wabash County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy J. Tyler Guenin.

Due to the level of soy beans within the bin, first responders cut several large holes at the base of the bin and began removing the contents.

A St. Vincent Health StatFlight Helicopter responded and was on the ground during the search.

At approximately 2:14 p.m., the Wabash County Coroner’s Office pronounced Daniel Haupert, 66, North Manchester, dead on the scene.

This incident and the causation factors remain under investigation. No further details were available.
