One person killed in Sunday afternoon crash in Wabash County

WABASH — A Marion man was killed in a Sunday afternoon crash in Wabash County.

The accident happened around 1 p.m. at the junction of State Road 15 and County Road 700 South, according to the news release from the Indiana State Police.

The crash involved a Buick Lacrosse driven by Dennis Stroup, 85, of Marion, who was traveling north on State Road 15 south of Wabash. 

For an undetermined reason, the Buick turned into the direct path of a Ford F150 driven by Larry Walker, age 76, of La Fontaine. Both vehicles collided and came to a rest near the intersection. Also in the Ford was a passenger, Sharon Walker, 72, of La Fontaine.

As a result of the crash, Stroup was taken by Wabash Fire to a local hospital. Despite life-saving measures, Stroup succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by medical staff. 

Both of the Walkers were also transported by Wabash Fire to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

This investigation is ongoing. At this time, neither the consumption of alcoholic beverages nor narcotics is suspected of contributing to this crash. Notification to the family of the deceased has been made. 

Senior Trooper Dustin Rutledge was assisted by other members of the Indiana State Police Peru District, Wabash County Sheriff’s Office, Indiana DNR Law Enforcement, Wabash Fire Department, Liberty Volunteer Fire Department, and Wabash County EMA.
