Payton Slaymaker, whose story has been told near and far since developing a type of tumor along her brain stem, has passed away.

Payton’s family announced on Facebook Thursday morning that Payton had passed on Wednesday. Payton was diagnosed with diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, or DIPG, back in 2019. Her family started a Facebook page to follow Payton’s story in the hospital, at home, and how she went from being just known in the community, to throughout the rest of the country.

In recent weeks, numerous businesses throughout the area have been putting “Pray for Payton” on their marquees, while yard signs were reportedly shipped to homes and other locations throughout all 50 states. Visitation and funeral services will be set through the Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home.
