Pedestrian Accident Victim Found Walking Away

A Fort Wayne man got up and walked away after being hit by a car on East Pierceton Road Tuesday morning.
According to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, Kegan D. O’Brien, 24, South Ind. 25, Mentone, was driving east on Pierceton Road in Pierceton at 7 a.m. When he saw a man walking toward him on the white line, it was too late. O’Brien told police that he was traveling at the speed limit.
He immediately got out of his car to help the victim, who could not be found. He then called 911 and waited at the scene.
A Pierceton fireman later found Calvin J. Beard, 19, Fort Wayne, walking down Pierceton Road, disoriented and with only one shoe. Beard stated that he wasn’t sure where he was coming from or where he was going. Police found Beard’s shoe, cell phone and hat near the scene of the accident.
Beard has been released from Parkview Fort Wayne and has a bruised lung and a concussion. Damages from the accident were estimated up to $5,000.
