Pedestrian struck and killed on US 30 overnight

WARSAW — A North Manchester woman died early Wednesday morning when she apparently walked into the path of a truck on US 30 in Warsaw.

Emergency personnel were dispatched to the westbound lanes of US 30 at Old Road 30 for the traffic accident at about 3:10 a.m.

According to a news release from the Warsaw Police Department, the preliminary ongoing investigation indicates McKenzie Callison, 32, of North Manchester, crossed into the path of a westbound 2025 Freightliner Cascadia tractor-trailer.

The truck was driven by Wally Ortiz, 54, of Joliet, Illinois.

Callison was struck on the roadway and succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

The accident required the closure of both eastbound and westbound lanes of the highway.

The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office Fatal Team was requested to assist with the reconstruction.

Agencies responding to the accident included Warsaw Police, Winona Lake Police, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office, Lutheran EMS, Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory and  the Kosciusko County Coroner’s office.
