Plea Agreement For Man Accused Of Beating Elkhart Officer

A man accused of beating an Elkhart police officer has taken a plea agreement and has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

It was last July when 21 year-old Reese Haithcox of Chicago attacked the officer as he approached in the 100 block of West Garfield Avenue.

After the beating, a growing crowd of area residents and responding officers made for a tense situation, much of it captured on cell phone video.

Haithcox pleaded guilty to three of the eight charges against him, including aggravated assault and two counts of battery on an officer.

His next court date is set for March 5.
