Plymouth man dies in officer-involved shooting in Knox

A Plymouth man is dead after after being shot by officers he was allegedly trying to run over. It happened Wednesday morning when officers from the Knox Police Department and Starke County Sheriff’s Department went to a business to serve a felony warrant.

After they arrived, a black pickup burst out of the closed garage door of the business and hit a marked Starke County Sheriff’s Department squad car. The truck continued and the driver, 46-year-old William Newman of Plymouth, attempted to run over another officer as he attempted to flee the scene.

Officers opened fire on the vehicle, hitting Newman in the process. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died. The incident is currently under investigation by the Indiana State Police.
