Plymouth Man Sentenced for Murder, Arson

PLYMOUTH, Ind. –A Plymouth man charged with murder, arson, and resting law enforcement will spend nearly 100 years in prison.

Duane Longacre, 36, was sentenced Wednesday to 97 years in prison for arson and for the murder of Jill McCarty.

In 2019, Longacre used a machete to kill McCarty. He then dumped her body in a bathtub and set her house on fire before trying to escape. Police arrested Longacre as he tried to run away.

Longacre admitted that, before McCarty’s death, he was on a 10-day meth binge.
