Officers are asking the public for any information about a man suspected of illegally poaching a whitetail deer at St. Patrick’s County Park in St. Joseph County over the weekend.
Witnesses told police that they heard a gunshot at about 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, and saw a man and two young teenage boys with the deer, according to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
The suspect is described as a white man, heavy set, approximately 50 years old with a grey beard. He was wearing a tan shirt on Sunday.
The gun used may have been a .22 caliber rifle. The deer’s wound is consistent with a small caliber rifle or a handgun, the DNR said.
A reward may be available to someone who provides information that leads to the suspect’s arrest. Anyone with information about the poaching, or other incidents of poaching, is asked to call 1-800-TIP-IDNR or 1-800-847-4367.
