Another phone scam has hit the area. This time, the subject calls and identifies themselves as an officer with the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department. The caller then advises the person they have a warrant, then provides supposed specific information from the warrant including which judge supposedly signed the warrant. The caller says the fine can be paid over the phone and give instructions on how to do that. But… don't fall for it. The Elkhart Police Department, Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department and the Elkhart County Court system will NOT contact you by phone and have you post a bond or pay a fine over the phone. The agencies say that type of contact would be made in person or by mail.
