Sandbags available to Warsaw residents in flood-prone areas

News Release

WARSAW — Warsaw Street Department is making sandbags available to city residents living in flood-prone areas.

With heavy rain in the forecast, surface water levels are expected to rise over the next few days, the city said in a prepared statement.

In anticipation of that, those in flood-prone areas are advised to take appropriate action.

The Warsaw Street Department at 794 West Center St., has sandbags on pallets available to City residents in front of the shop under the awning that can be picked up.

Over the weekend, city residents that need larger amounts can contact Central Dispatch at (574) 267-5667, Option #3, and provide them with your name, telephone number, and address.

Once the city has received multiple requests, you will be contacted, and employees will be called in for deliveries.

Telephones will be manned at the Street Department Monday – Friday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Outside of these hours, please contact Central Dispatch at (574) 267-5667, Option #3.

Please be advised not to drive through flooded areas and to seek alternate shelter if flood waters threaten your structure.

Upward of two inches of rain is possible in parts of northern Indiana, according to the National Weather Service.
