Second candidate files for open Winona Lake Town Council seat

A second candidate has filed for the open Winona Lake Town Council position.

Kosciusko County GOP Chairman Mike Ragan says Kearstin Criswell filed Wednesday to be part of the caucus that will decide the seat August 8.

Criswell is the Director of Student Involvement at Grace College. According to the school’s website, Criswell has her bachelor’s degree from Huntington University and her master’s from Grace College and Seminary.

The only other person who has filed for the Council role is 35-year-old James D. Zachary, who works at Zimmer Biomet.

The vacant spot became open after Peter Christos pleaded guilty to a felony and resigned from the Town Council. The 41-year-old owner of the Boathouse restaurant was sentenced to two years of probation for a felony count of domestic battery and a misdemeanor count of invasion of privacy.

The new Town Council member will be elected “by secret ballot of the majority members of the voting caucus to fill the vacancy in office”. Those who are interested in filing the position can get Declarations of Candidacy from the Kosciusko County Clerk of the Circuit Court.

Ragan says the deadline for filing is Saturday at 7 p.m.
