Several recognitions made during Tuesday commissioner’s meeting

Tuesday’s Kosciusko County Commissioner’s meeting included several different individual recognitions for area residents.

March Veteran of the Month

Warsaw resident Richard Loos, a US Army veteran, was recognized as the March Veteran of the Month. The 81-year old enlisted in 1963 and served through 1966 before returning back to the workforce. Loos was part of the 538th Engineer Battalion Construction at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He served overseas in Thailand and also spent a little time in Vietnam.

After serving, Loos worked with the Bechtel Power Corporation, which is based out of San Francisco. He were there as a design engineer, working for nearly 40 years. His time at the company included various jobs which had him live in four different countries during his career.

One of those countries was Ukraine, where he was said to be the project director for a shelter improvement project for safe confinement of Unit #4 at Chernobyl.

Eagle Scouts Recognized

Two teens were honored for earning the rank of Eagle Scout, including Charlie Sexton and Megan Harris from Troop 726. Harris was noted as the first female Eagle Scout in Northeast Indiana. Both earned Eagle Scout status on January 21st.

Sexton is a senior at Warsaw Community High School and Harris is a senior at Churubusco High School.

Officials tout Health and Wellness, recognize program

Lastly, the commissioners recognized those who helped implement a Health and Wellness program back in 2019, which has seen many county employees participate in.

Employees receive incentives for participating such as insurance premiums and a bonus personal day.

The program includes workshops and other classes to help employees and their families stay healthy and keep active. Within the first six months of the program, the participation rate was said to be at 75 percent. 224 county employees were involved in programs that were run by the Purdue University Extension.
