SF Motors will spend $160 million and hire over 450 workers for its Mishawaka plant.

Governor Eric Holcomb and other local leaders were on hand for the announcement by the electric car maker Wednesday morning.

St. Joseph County Commissioner Andy Kostielney compared this endeavor to the days when Studebakers were made in the county, saying that this keeps this area “on the cutting edge of automotive technology.” He also noted that one of Studebaker’s first vehicles was “electric in nature.”

SF Motors purchased its auto plant in Mishawaka from AM General in June 2017.
