SOUTH BEND (Network Indiana) — Health leaders in St. Joseph County have decided to extend the county’s mask mandate through the end of May.

Last week, Governor Eric Holcomb said he would allow a statewide mask mandate to expire, but that individual counties and cities in Indiana can keep enforcing their own local mandates. Deputy county health director Dr. Mark Fox in St. Joseph County says they are doing just that.

But, the extension notes that this will be the final time that they will be extending the mandate. It’s also likely that the county council will not renew an ordinance mandating masks be worn in public indoor places next month.
