A standoff at a rural Kosciusko County home ended on a quiet and calm note Thursday morning.

The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office says the standoff took place at a home along County Road 700 South near County Road 425 West. It started after 27-year old Quincy Akeem Jenkins was seen entering a traffic control vehicle, where crews were working on an electrical pole project.

Witnesses stated that Jenkins entered the vehicle, then exited shortly after and ran toward a neighboring home, removing his clothing at the same time. Jenkins was said to attempt to enter one home, but crews stopped the homeowner from opening the door. He then ran to an adjacent home, where he forced entry through a back window.

Police say the homeowner was not there at the time, but came to the scene and was said to relay vital information to deputies.

Multiple attempts to communicate with Jenkins were unsuccessful at first, but the use of a robot through the back door allowed communication with officers and Jenkins. After talking with officers, Jenkins then surrendered to SWAT members who were standing by.

Charges against Jenkins are currently pending and will be released when available.
