State accountability grades released

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Department of Education released its school accountability grades yesterday for 2016.
The grades are released annually. The IDOE judges schools on their performance and growth.
The criteria for elementary and middle schools is based only on the ISTEP state assesment exam, according to Samantha Hart, public information officer, IDOE. For high schools, a category called college and career readiness is added and judged with the ISTEP results.
This year, Indiana implemented a new student-centered school accountability system utilizing Indiana’s new, more rigorous standards and assessments for the first time.
Three area schools received an “A” – Sacred Heart School, Warsaw Christian School and Lincoln Elementary.

Lakeland Christian Academy was the only area school to get an “F,” due to LCA not being accredited by the Indiana Department of Education.   LCA’s Director of Development Scott Wiley released the following statement:

“The score that Lakeland received from the State of Indiana does not accurately represent the high caliber of our academics and our incredible student/college enrollment percentage. Since we are accredited through the Association of Christian Schools International and the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement instead of the State of Indiana.  The grade given is not reflective of LCA’s academic standards. When looking at statistics that do match up with local schools you will find that Lakeland Christian Academy excels in these areas.”
