State Motions Denied In Rovenstine Case

ELKHART – Elkhart Superior Court Judge Evan S. Roberts has denied the state’s motion for a change of venue request and to draw the jury pool from one or more contiguous counties in the trial of Kosciusko County Sheriff C. Aaron Rovenstine.

Rovenstine was arrested in February on 10 felony counts that include three counts of bribery, five counts of official misconduct, one count of intimidation and one count of assisting a criminal.

On Tuesday, Roberts denied a second discovery request and ruled the state is ordered to disclose the transcripts of the grand jury minutes containing the testimony of witnesses who testified before the grand jury and that the State may call at trial.
After review of the defendant’s motion for extension of time that was filed May 16, Roberts granted the defendant until September 3 to file all motions directed at the indictment.
A teleconference was held Monday between Rovenstine’s attorneys, the special prosecuting attorney and Roberts discussing the discovery requests.

A status conference is scheduled for  1 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Elkhart Superior Court 1.
