State reports first Measles case in Kosciusko County

Staff Report

WARSAW — The spread of measles continues across the state, and health officials now confirm that a case has been reported in Kosciusko County.

The Indiana Department of Health reported the case on Tuesday and, as is standard, no details about the patient were released.

Kosciusko joins four other counties in northeast Indiana — Adams, Allen, DeKalb, and LaGrange — in reporting measles cases this year. Currently, the number of measles cases reported statewide in 2026 is 74.

Health officials say the best way to prevent measles is through vaccination.

The state health department identifies the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine as the most effective method of preventing infection.

Routine childhood vaccination includes a first dose between 12 and 15 months of age and a second dose between four and six years of age. Two doses generally provide lifelong protection.

Health officials encourage residents who are unsure of their vaccination status to contact their healthcare provider.
