WARSAW — A Syracuse woman was killed and a Milford man was injured in a two-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon.

According to a news release from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred near the residence of 2701 E. CR 700N east of CR 200  at 2:54 p.m. on CR 700N.

Emergency personnel arrived on scene and found a Nissan Altima, driven by Ranee Tom, 49, Syracuse, and a Ford F150, driven by Scott Smith, 74, Milford.

Preliminary investigation determined the Nissan Altima was westbound on CR 700N and crossed the center line, hitting the Ford F150.

Tom was pronounced dead at the scene by the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office.

Smith was flown from the scene by Lutheran Air to a hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by the Kosciusko County FACT.

The KCSO was assisted at the scene by the Kosciusko County 911 Dispatch Center, Plain Township Fire Department, Lutheran EMS, Lutheran Air, Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office and Crouse Wrecker Service.

PLYMOUTH — A 46-year-old man died after a crash involving a semi in Marshall County on Tuesday morning.

The crash happened around 11:45 a.m. at the intersection of State Road 17 and State Road 8 south of Plymouth.

According to the Marshall County Coroner’s Office, Michael Vebert of Fort Wayne was heading east on State Road 8 in a Mercury Sable when he entered the path of a semi heading south on State Road 17.

Vebert died at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.

SHIPSHEWANA — Two elderly people in an Amish buggy died after being struck from behind by a dump truck on Tuesday afternoon.

The crash happened just after 3 p.m. on US 20 near CR 1000 West in LaGrange County, according to information provided by the Indiana State Police.

The initial investigation shows the buggy, occupied by two people, was on the shoulder heading east on US 20. 

For an unknown reason, a Ford F550 dump truck drifted onto the shoulder and hit the buggy. The truck was driven by Gael Reyes, 20, of Sturgis, Mich., who was not injured.

Marvin Shrock, 75, and Ruby Shrock, 74, both of Shipshewana, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Drugs and alcohol are not suspected as a factor in this crash. It is still under investigation by the Indiana State Police Critical Incident Reconstruction Team, and there is currently no other information available.

MILFORD — A Leesburg man died in a traffic accident Wednesday afternoon in a collision on SR 15 south of CR 1350N and north of Milford.

57-year-old Michael W. Troup died after the Chevy Trail Blazer he was driving collided with an International Box Truck driven by 58-year-old Joel Machorro De Leon of Elkhart

The accident happened around 12:30 p.m., Wednesday.

Troup died at the scene, according to a news release from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office.

De Leon was uninjured.

A 65-year-old passenger in Troup’s vehicle, Penny Coppes, OF Milford, was transported by Lutheran EMS to Lutheran Hospital in Warsaw for treatment of lacerations and pain.

The cause of the accident is undetermined at this time.

The crash remains under investigation.

FULTON COUNTY — A woman died in an accident in Fulton County Tuesday night.

On Tuesday night, just before 8 p.m., officers from the Indiana State Police, the Fulton County Sheriff's Office, and the Rochester Police Department responded to an injury-involved crash on US 31 at the intersection of Southway 31.

Officers arrived within minutes and found one of the drivers, unconscious.

A preliminary investigation by Trooper Adrianna Ward indicates that a silver Ford Escape driven by Cameron Green, 25, of Coldwater, Mich., was traveling southbound in the passing lane on US 31 near Southway 31.

For an undetermined reason, a red Nissan Kicks driven by Tina Adkins, 55, Peru, was stopped in the southbound passing lane at the intersection.

The Ford collided with the Nissan's passenger side, causing the Nissan to come to rest on the south side of the intersection and the Ford to come to rest in the median.

Green sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Woodlawn Hospital. Adkins was pronounced deceased at the crash scene by medical personnel.

This is an ongoing investigation. At this time, neither the consumption of alcoholic beverages nor narcotics are suspected of contributing to the crash.

Notification to the family of the deceased has been made.

Trooper Ward was assisted by other members of the Indiana State Police Peru District, the Indiana State Police Reconstruction Team, Fulton County Sheriff's Office, Rochester Police Department, Parkview EMS, Rochester Fire Department, and Fulton County EMA.
