PIERCETON — A Pierceton man died after his vehicle rear-ended another vehicle that had slowed for a disabled vehicle stopped along on US 30 early Wednesday morning.

Police received the call at about 5:40 a.m. about a crash on US 30 near CR 450E, just west of Pierceton.

The crash involved a Chevrolet S-10 pickup, and a Buick Rendezvous and a GMC Acadia, according to a news release from the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Office.

Police determined another vehicle had been partially stopped along the inner lane of westbound US 30 and was also partially in the median because of a flat tire.

The GMC and the Buick were slowing down due to the disabled vehicle, the news release said.

The S-10 was westbound on US 30 in the left lane approaching the slowing traffic and collided with the Buick, pushing the Buick into the rear of the Acadia.

The S-10 was driven by 58-year-old Jay King of Pierceton, who was flown to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne where he succumbed to injuries from the crash, according to the Allen County Coroner.

The Buick Rendezvous was driven by 84-year-old Sarah Craft of Pierceton. The Acadia was driven by 31-year-old Lovesson Frejuste of Orlando, Fla.

No other injuries were reported.

The crash investigation was turned over to the Kosciusko County Fatal Team.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Pierceton Fire Department, Warsaw Fire Department, Lutheran EMS, Lutheran Air Ambulance and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
