<p>NEW PARIS — A 69-year-old Syracuse man was identified as the victim Monday in Elkhart County.</p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The county coroner’s office said Phillip L. Hoover died in a private pond located near the 70000 block of County Road 29, which is southeast of New Paris.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A preliminary investigation concluded that Hoover fell into the pond as he attempted to rescue his dog that had fallen through the ice, Indiana State Police said in a news release.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Emergency personnel were able to rescue the dog.</span></p>
<p>Exactly when the accident happened on Monday was unclear.</p>

<p>WARSAW — An investigation into the death of 64-year-old Mike Long indicates the Kosciusko County Councilman and farmer died Thursday afternoon in an accidental drowning on family property south of Etna Green.</p>
<p>Kosciusko County deputies and emergency personnel responded at about 5 pm., to a report of an unresponsive person in a ditch suffering from a medical emergency, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.</p>
<p>The incident happened at 375 N. 950 W where emergency responders found Long's body.</p>
<p>A preliminary investigation determined Long was checking fields on property owned by the Long family.</p>
<p>Long was found near a ditch line where evidence indicates Long accidentally drowned.</p>
<p>A report from the sheriff's office said emergency personnel arrived on the scene and Long was pronounced dead by Kosciusko County Coroner Tyler Huffer.</p>
<p>Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Etna Green Fire<br />
Department, Atwood Fire Department, Department of Natural Resources,<br />
Lutheran EMS, Kosciusko County 911 Dispatch, and Kosciusko County Coroner’s<br />

News Now Warsaw</h5>
<p>WARSAW — A young person drowned Sunday afternoon after two minors were pulled from a channel behind Gilliam Drive in Warsaw.</p>
<p>The accident was reported at about 12:27 p.m.</p>
<p>The home at Gilliam Drive North is located along a channel that feeds into Center Lake.</p>
<h5><a href="https://www.newsnowwarsaw.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Add-a-subheading.png">Warsaw Police Department, Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory and Lutheran EMS were dispatched to the scene on the northwest side of Center Lake. </a></h5>
<h5><a href="https://www.newsnowwarsaw.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Add-a-subheading.png">The two victims had been pulled from the water and resuscitative efforts were underway as the initial crews arrived, according to a news release from Warsaw Police Department.</a></h5>
<h5><a href="https://www.newsnowwarsaw.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Add-a-subheading.png">One victim was airlifted by Lutheran Air Ambulance from nearby Central Park and remains in critical condition in a Fort Wayne hospital. </a></h5>
<h5><a href="https://www.newsnowwarsaw.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Add-a-subheading.png">The other victim was transported to Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital and pronounced deceased a short time later. </a></h5>
<h5><a href="https://www.newsnowwarsaw.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Add-a-subheading.png">Additional resources from Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory CARES, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, and Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office responded.</a></h5>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The family told police Kymani Emmanuel Collier went under the water around 4:45 p.m. at the pool. </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Lifeguards retrieved him and performed CPR.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Family members say Kymani had a faint heartbeat during chest compressions and was eventually taken off life support.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Elkhart County Homicide Unit is handling the investigation.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Phil Jenkins, the mayor of Nappanee, issued a statement saying their hearts go out to the family and friends affected by this incident. We are deeply saddened by this unfortunate event and are fully committed to working with everyone affected by this tragedy.”</span></p>
