WARSAW — The semi driver who was intoxicated when he crashed into a school bus full of hockey players in Warsaw in 2022 will spend up to 20 years in prison.

That came as a result of a plea deal reached Monday in Warsaw

Kosciusko County Superior  Court III Judge Chad Miner accepted a plea agreement that calls for Victor Santos, 61, of Brooklyn, N.Y., to serve a 20-year prison sentence, which will then be followed by more than two years on probation.

He could be out of prison in about 15 years with good time served.

Santos was speeding along US 30 and ran a red light at East Center Street before slamming into a bus carrying high school hockey players from Chicago.

Many were injured, including three critically.

Santos was initially faced 26 felonies, including four counts of causing serious bodily injury while operating a vehicle while intoxicated and 22 counts of criminal recklessness.

Monday's hearing included victim impact statements from students injured in the crash and others.

An attorney for families of the victims said they were satisfied with the sentence.
