INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Fever fans now have a stylish and impactful way to represent their team while driving through the Hoosier State.

On Friday, the team debuted its first-ever specialty license plate, a collaboration with the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles designed to turn team spirit into community support. The license plate features the team’s signature “F” logo on a crisp white background with a vibrant red banner across the bottom highlighting the Fever Fund.

For standard vehicles, the plate will carry the prefix “WB” for women’s basketball, while motorcycle enthusiasts will sport the prefix “EW,” standing for the team’s “Expect to Win” motto.

The new plate is more than just a piece of fan memorabilia; it serves as a moving billboard for social good. Of the $40 annual cost for the plate, $25 is donated directly to the Fever Fund, an initiative managed by the Pacers Foundation.

This fund is dedicated to empowering women and girls throughout Indiana by supporting organizations that focus on leadership development, career readiness, wellness through sports, and personal safety.

By choosing this plate, fans are providing the financial fuel necessary for 501(c)(3) organizations to create environments where young women can build confidence and feel supported in every aspect of their lives.

Indiana Fever Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Amber Cox emphasized the long-term vision behind the project during the launch.

“We’re thrilled to bring Fever fans another meaningful and fun way to represent their passion for this team,” Cox said. “Every plate purchased fuels opportunities for women and girls across Indiana through the Fever Fund, ensuring that our impact grows far beyond the court.”

She noted that community engagement has always been a staple of the organization, and this initiative allows the franchise to extend its reach into classrooms and neighborhoods across the state.

Hoosiers looking to make the switch can purchase the plate immediately through several convenient channels. The specialty plates are available for order on myBMV.com, in person at any BMV branch, or via BMV Connect Kiosks for those simply looking to renew their existing standard plates.

While the specialty plate is $40, fans who want an even more unique look can opt for a personalized version for an additional fee. For those who aren’t currently up for renewal but want to show their support right away, the BMV allows drivers to upgrade to the Fever plate in person at any branch for a small administrative fee. Through this new program, the Fever are ensuring that the momentum of women’s basketball translates into a lasting legacy for the next generation of Indiana’s female leaders.

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark, one of this year’s 2025 AT&T WNBA All-Star captains, selected her roster as part of an hour-long edition of WNBA Countdown on ESPN, presented by Google.

[caption id="attachment_114272" align="alignright" width="192"] Clark[/caption]

Clark selected fellow Indiana Fever teammate Aliyah Boston No.1 overall, followed by New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu No. 3 overall. Teammate Kelsey Mitchell was chosen by Clark with her first pick in the reserve’s round, guaranteeing all three Fever players will team up together on July 19 in Indianapolis.

Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier, the game’s other captain, selected New York Liberty forward Breanna Stewart with the second overall pick.

Clark’s final two starter selections include reigning WNBA Most Valuable Player A’ja Wilson (Las Vegas Aces) and three-time All-Star Satou Sabally (Pheonix Mercury).

After picking first out of the starters pot, Clark was given second pick from the reserves pot, using her first selection on her teammate, Mitchell. Clark rounded out her squad with the additions of Gabby Williams (Seattle Storm), a pair of Washington Mystics rookies in Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen, as well as Jackie Young (Las Vegas Aces) and Kayla Thornton (Golden State Valkyries).

Represented in Clark’s squad are three groups of teammates, including the Indiana Fever trio, Citron and Iriafen from Washington, and Wilson and Young from Las Vegas. Additionally, the frontcourt duo of South Carolina alumni in Boston and Wilson will once again pair up, reminiscent of the 2023 WNBA All-Star game. Former University of Oregon teammates Ionescu and Sabally will play together again for the first time at the WNBA level since joining the league in 2020.

Additionally, as part of an agreed upon trade, the two teams will swap coaches with Clark’s team set to be led by New York Liberty Head Coach Sandy Brondello, while Collier will reunite with her head coach at the Lynx, Cheryl Reeves.

Rosters for both teams are as follows:

Team Clark

1. Caitlin Clark (IND)

2. Aliyah Boston (IND)

3. Sabrina Ionescu (NYL)

INDIANAPOLIS — The man from Texas accused of stalking and sending sexually charged messages and threats to Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark admitted he was "guilty as charged."

Michael Lewis, 55, appeared in court for his first hearing Tuesday morning after he was arrested at a hotel Sunday.

Court documents claim Lewis started messaging Clark in mid-December through January. Lewis told police that his relationship was imaginary and a joke.

While in court Tuesday morning, Lewis pleaded "guilty as charged" the moment he sat down, according to WISH-TV.

Lewis faces a presumptive three-year sentence, according to a Marion County judge. The court also filed a "not guilty" plea on Lewis' behalf as Tuesday's hearing was only his first appearance. The judge also recommended he only speak to his attorney.

Lewis is being held on a $50,000 bond. If posted, he'll be required to wear an ankle monitor and remain in Indiana.

His pre-trial hearing is scheduled for March 31st.

Associated Press

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indianapolis Star sports columnist Gregg Doyel, whose interaction with WNBA No. 1 draft pick Caitlin Clark at her introductory news conference was criticized in the national media as being inappropriate, will not cover the Indiana Fever in person this season.

Gannett spokesperson Lark-Marie Antón said in a statement the corporate owner of the Star does not comment on personnel matters but added: “Indianapolis Star sports columnist Gregg Doyel will not be covering the Indiana Fever.”

Former Star sports writer Bob Kravitz, citing anonymous sources, first reported the decision and also that Doyel had been suspended for two weeks, which Antón would not confirm. Doyel’s most recent column appeared April 29.

Doyel has apologized for the interaction with Clark during a news conference in Indianapolis two days after the Fever chose the Iowa star with the No. 1 overall pick in the WNBA draft. When it was Doyel’s turn to ask a question, he made a heart shape with his hands toward Clark, who is known for making the gesture toward family members at her games. That was followed by this exchange:

Clark: “You like that?”

Doyel: “I like that you’re here, I like that you’re here.”

Clark: “Yeah, I do that to my family after every game, so… Pretty cool.”

Doyel: “Well, start doing it to me, and we’ll get along just fine.”

The interaction was roundly panned as being awkward at best and inappropriate and even creepy at worst. Doyel apologized on social media and again in a column.

“In my haste to be clever, to be familiar and welcoming (or so I thought), I offended Caitlin and her family,” he wrote. “After going through denial, and then anger – I’m on the wrong side of this? Me??? – I now realize what I said and how I said it was wrong, wrong, wrong. I mean it was just wrong.”

Doyel did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment. The Fever are expected to be one of the biggest draws during the WNBA season that opens next week.

NEW YORK (AP) — Caitlin Clark admitted she was a bit nervous before being chosen with the No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft by the Indiana Fever, even though it was no surprise.

“I dreamed of this moment since I was in second grade, and it’s taken a lot of hard work, a lot of ups and downs, but more than anything, just trying to soak it in,” Clark said.

The former Iowa star became a household name among basketball fans during her record-breaking college career, and she will now try and help revive the Indiana franchise along with last season’s No. 1 pick, Aliyah Boston, who previously played with Clark on a USA Basketball Under-19 team.

“Obviously going to an organization that has, in my eyes, one of the best post players in the entire world,” Clark said. “My point guard eyes just light up at that. And obviously, Aliyah has been one of my teammates before. I’m excited. I can’t wait.”

The Fever taking Clark had been a foregone conclusion since she announced on Feb. 29 she would turn pro. Nearly 17,000 tickets were claimed to watch the draft at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, home to the Fever and the NBA’s Indiana Pacers.

The NCAA’s all-time scoring leader was a big reason why a record 18.9 million viewers tuned in to the national championship game, which Iowa lost to unbeaten South Carolina. The Hawkeyes were also the national runners-up to LSU a year earlier.

It’s been a whirlwind few weeks for Clark. After the title game, she flew to Los Angeles to receive the John R. Wooden Award and then came to New York for an appearance on “Saturday Night Live.”

“I think obviously the course of the last few weeks has been pretty insane in my life, the last two months playing basketball as long as I possibly could in my college career,” Clark said. “I think the biggest thing is I’m just very lucky to be in this moment, and all these opportunities and these things, they’re once in a lifetime.”

Clark, who wore a white Prada jacket and skirt, hugged her parents and brothers and Iowa coach Lisa Bluder after she was drafted.

The draft was held at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in front of 1,000 fans, who bought all the tickets within 15 minutes of them going on sale a few months ago.

Los Angeles chose Stanford’s Cameron Brink at No. 2. She’ll get to stay in California and gives the Sparks a two-way player.

“When they called my name, a huge wave of emotions hit me,” Brink said. “I saw my mom tearing up and my dad and it hit home.”

A prolific scorer, Brink was also the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year. The Sparks needed to replace franchise player Nneka Ogwumike, who left for Seattle in free agency. Brink’s godmother, Sonya Curry, is the mother of Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry.

“I FaceTimed Steph five minutes before the show started and he said have fun with it,” Brink said. “He can share so much great advice since he’s been through this. Make stuff like this fun as it can be stressed.”

Chicago had the third pick and chose South Carolina’s Kamilla Cardoso before the Sparks were on the clock again and and selected Tennessee’s Rickea Jackson.

Cardoso had a busy week, helping the Gamecocks win the national championship to complete an undefeated season. She took part in the team’s championship parade on Sunday before traveling to New York.

Dallas took Ohio State guard Jacy Sheldon with the fifth pick. Washington drafted Aaliyah Edwards of UConn sixth before Chicago took LSU’s Angel Reese at No. 7, pairing her with Cardoso.

“She’s a great player and I’m a great player. Nobody’s going to get no rebounds on us,” the 6-foot-7 Cardoso said, laughing.

Minnesota, which had swapped picks with Chicago, drafted Alissa Pili of Utah eighth.

A pair of French guards, Carla Leite and Leila Lacan, went next to Dallas and Connecticut, respectively.

New York drafted Ole Miss’ Marquesha Davis at No. 11 and Atlanta closed out the first round by taking Australian Nyadiew Puoch.
