NEW PARIS — An 18-year-old driver was seriously injured in a head-on collision with an Elkhart County Sheriff deputy’s vehicle early Sunday morning in New Paris, according to thre Goshen News.
At approximately 1 a.m., Ptl. Richard Jasinski was traveling south on Ind. 15, near C.R. 146, in his marked 2020 Dodge Durango, according to an Indiana State Police news release.
“Just south of the intersection, a silver 2012 Chevrolet Impala traveling northbound is alleged to have crossed the centerline, crashing into Jasinski head-on,” the release stated. “Jasinski was transported to Goshen Hospital where he was treated and released,” the news release said.
The driver of the Chevrolet, an 18-year-old male (not named in the report), had to be extricated from his vehicle. He was taken to Elkhart General Hospital with injuries that are serious but not believed to be life-threatening.
Toxicology results are pending for the driver of the Chevrolet.
Members from the ISP Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene to assist with the investigation, which is ongoing.
