PIERCETON — On Tuesday, detectives with the Indiana State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) arrested a Pierceton man on alleged charges of possession of child sexual abuse material and possession of drugs.

This investigation began when a tip was received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). The tip ultimately led to a search warrant being served on a residence in rural Pierceton.

As a result of the investigation, Claude Mullins, 63 of Pierceton, IN, was arrested and transported to the Kosciusko County Jail for:

• Possession of Child Pornography, Level 5 Felony
• Possession of Methamphetamine, Level 6 Felony
• Possession of Marijuana, Class B-Misdemeanor
• Possession of Paraphernalia, Class A-Misdemeanor

The Indiana State Police was assisted by the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office and the Howard County Sheriff’s Department.

TIPTON — Two Kokomo residents are facing drug charges after they were pulled over for a traffic stop on US 31 in Tipton.

The driver, 40-year-old Dion C. Jones, and a passenger, 35-year-old Travian I. White, were pulled over at about 10 p.m. Wednesday near Division Road, Indiana State Police said in a news release.

A State Trooper then then relied on his K-9 partner which alerted police to the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle. 

Police then found approximately 2.8 pounds of suspected methamphetamine. Cocaine and  paraphernalia were also allegedly found.

Both men were taken into custody to the Tipton County Jail.

WARSAW — Nearly two dozen people were arrested or are facing arrest following a drug sweep carried out by Kosciusko County Sheriff’s officers and other surrounding police agencies.

Eleven people were arrested and 11 are being sought. 

NET 43 conducted covert surveillance and undercover operations for the last several months that led to the arrest, according to a news release from the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Office.

A majority of suspects are accused of dealing (or possessing) methamphetamine, a narcotic drug, cocaine or activity connected to Fentanyl.

One suspect is being held on a $50,000 bond and three others are facing bond of $$25,000 or more.

The ages of the suspects ranged from 60 to 19.

WARSAW — Several months of covert surveillance and undercover operations led to the arrest of 14 people and the issuance of warrants on ten more individuals on drug-related charges.

Arrests were made over a five-day period beginning March 15 by the Kosciusko County Narcotics Enforcement Team known as NET43, according to a news release from the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Office.

The warrant blitz was the culmination of efforts by officers from multiple law enforcement agencies throughout the county. 

A large majority of all 24 suspects are facing charges involving methamphetamine, fentanyl or cocaine.

WARSAW — The first instinct of The 35-year-old woman arrested last week and caught in possession of large amounts of meth, fentanyl and cocaine was to flee.

But soon after her arrest, Erika Bruner began talking with investigators about her business practices.

Bruner fled police after an attempted traffic stop on Jan. 17 for disregarding a stop sign. As she drove away, Bruner threw two black bags and a drink from her SUV. After a short chase, she eventually pulled over on Backwater Road south of North Webster and was apprehended.

Soon after, though, her outlook changed and she made some eye-popping admissions to police, according to court documents.

She told investigators that she would acquire a pound of methamphetamine and sell it in Kosciusko County in one day.

The Warsaw woman admitted she sold large quantities of methamphetamine fentanyl, cocaine and marijuana. She said the last time she obtained meth on Jan. 5 she sold it to six people.

The bust involved the seizure of 2.9 pounds of meth, 20 grams of fentanyl, 27 grams of cocaine, as well as LSD, Xanax, five firearms and a drone used to deliver drugs.

Court paperwork did not refer to the use of the drone.

Contents of the two black bags included drugs and an unloaded handgun, court records said.

Bruner said she decided to end the police chase after talking with her boyfriend on a cell phone while driving.

The investigation began as a result of tips from concerned residents.

Bruner, who has a criminal record involving drugs and at least one gun conviction, is facing a large number of charges in both Kosciusko and Elkhart counties.

WARSAW — The number of overdose deaths in Kosciusko County has fallen significantly over the past year.

A final 2024 tally is not yet complete, but as of last week, the number of overdose deaths recorded in the county stood at 9, according to a sign updated outside of the county coroner’s office that keeps a running total.

That’s less than half the number recorded in 2023.

County coroner Tyler Huffer was not immediately available, but two officials familiar with the issue talked to News Now Warsaw about the apparent trend, which is also being seen nationally.

"Nine is too many. One would be too many. Any lives lost are too many, but it's been great to see that number continue to go down, said Heidi Blake, coordinator for Kosciusko Coalition on Drug Education (K-CODE).

She and Kosciusko County Sheriff Jim Smith both credit the reduction in deaths to the increased use of Narcan (generic name is Naloxone), which is used to reverse the effects if applied promptly when somebody overdoses.

Blake said she carries Narcan with her in case she runs into a situation where it could be used.

"Unfortunately, some people still believe it's enabling individuals or that individuals should not have access to Narcan for free, but again, we know it's saving lives in our community," Blake said.

Smith also acknowledged the role Naracan is having in the community and said drugs like fentanyl, heroin and methamphetamine remain available in the area.

Both Blake and Smith said they believe an array of community programs are also having a role in reducing the number of deaths.

"These folks that have decided to change their ways, I'm confident in telling you all they have to do is say the words and there'd be somebody there to help," Smith said.

Narcan can be purchased in local pharmacies but is also available in several other locations such as Bowen Health.

According to the Indiana Overdose Dashboard, the number of overdose deaths in Kosciusko County has been above 20 since 2021.

More than 100,000 people have been dying annually from drug overdoses, and 75% of those deaths involve opioids (including highly potent synthetic opioids like fentanyl, often in combination with other drugs like stimulants), according to the National Institutes of Health.

Synthetic opioids such as fentanyl flooded the illicit market and became the leading cause of overdose deaths beginning in 2016, the NIH website said.

WARSAW — Two people in their 40s were arrested in a Net43 drug bust in Etna Green on Thursday. Details of the arrest were released by Kosciusko County Sheriff's Office on Saturday afternoon.

Arrests were initiated by Kosciusko County Deputies when they attempted to serve an arrest warrant at a residence in Etna Green and detected a strong odor of marijuana within the residence. 

Deputies then called in the Narcotics Enforcement Task Force (NET43) team to assist. 

NET 43 investigators executed a search warrant and found more than 350 grams of methamphetamine, hypodermic syringes, small amounts of cocaine, mushrooms, and marijuana plus $253 in cash.

Among those arrested were 47-year-old Cassidy Quimby, of Etna Green. He’s facing the brunt of the charges and was being held on a $50,000.00 surety bond.

Also taken into custody was 40-year-old Crystal Walker, of Akron, who was found hiding in a closet. She was booked on an outstanding warrant and her bond was set at $750.00 cash.

Felony charges against Quimby include dealing methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of cocaine and assisting a criminal.

Other misdemeanor charges include possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and false informing.

This drug arrest remains under investigation by NET43.

WARSAAW — Eighteen people — many facing drug charges — were arrested early Wednesday morning after Kosciusko County Narcotics Enforcement Team (NET 43) and officers from other area police agencies conducted a warrant blitz.

At the same time, warrants have been issued for another 14 area residents.

One of the arrests involves dealing fentanyl and seven others involve methamphetamine.

The blitz, dubbed Operation Pumpkin Patch, came after several months of covert surveillance and undercover operations.

The following people were arrested:

• Terrell Jujuan Davis, 41, of 806 S. Maple Road, Ann Arbor, Mich., for dealing in a fentanyl-containing substance more than seven 7 grams, a level 2 felony, and possession of a narcotic drug, a level 5 felony. The bond was set at $25,000 surety and $250 cash.
• Brandi Sue Wright Custer, 41, of 5910 S. Woodland Lane, Warsaw, for possession of a narcotic drug, with enhancing circumstances, a level 5 felony; unlawful carrying of a handgun, a level 5 felony; and possession of paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor. The bond was set at $10,000 surety and $250 cash of $7,000 10% cash bond.
• Gabriel Fields, 41, of 3441-5 W. Warren Drive, Warsaw, for possession of methamphetamine, a level 6 felony, and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor. No bond was listed.

The news release added, “The defendant’s charge (arrest) is merely an accusation and the defendant are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.”

WARSAW — A Warsaw man was arrested Thursday after a vehicle accident in August that claimed the life of a bicyclist.

Jonathan Walter Davis, 25, of 602 S. McClellan St., Warsaw, was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10 for operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death, a level 4 felony. His bond was set at $36,000.

His initial hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. Oct. 31

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed Sept. 16 in Kosciusko Circuit Court, at 7:55 p.m. Aug. 8 Kosciusko County emergency personnel were dispatched to the area of SR 19 and West CR 1100N for a crash between a vehicle and bicycle.

When Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Justin Smith arrived, he saw a red Chevrolet Blazer with extensive front-end damage facing north along the eastern edge of the road. Smith then saw a dead man lying along the east side of the road, along with a heavily damaged bicycle.

The Kosciusko County coroner identified the deceased man as Aaron E. Miller. Miller’s injuries included severe head trauma and minor bruising on his right left.

The driver of the Blazer was identified as Davis, who stated he was traveling north on North Ind. 19 when he saw the flashing light on the rear of Miller’s bicycle, which was traveling in the same lane as Davis, according to court documents. Davis said that as he got closer to the bicycle, he “blacked out.” He said when he regained consciousness, his vehicle hit Miller.

A KCSO deputy previously read Davis the Indiana implied consent for serious bodily injury, or fatal crash, and Davis consented to a chemical test.

The deputy took Davis to Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital for a consensual blood draw.

About a week after the accident, according to the affidavit, another KCSO deputy received video of the crash provided by homeowners on Ind. 19. The video shows Miller riding his bicycle north on Ind. 19 in front of the home when he was hit from the rear by Davis’s Blazer.

On Sept. 3, Smith received blood results for Davis, whose blood tested positive for methamphetamine (448.91 ng/ml) and marijuana (3.93 ng/ml).

PLYMOUTH — Following a drug raid in Marshall County, three individuals were apprehended and two children were hospitalized.

Authorities executed a search warrant at the Economy Inn in Plymouth around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday.

During the investigation, law enforcement discovered a significant quantity of suspected meth, marijuana, and prescription drugs.

The Indiana Department of Child Services intervened to take custody of a 12-year-old and an 8-month-old. Both children were hospitalized after they tested positive for methamphetamine.

Those arrested were 39-year-old Gary Parks, 31-year-old Ashley Felix, and 59-year-old Albert Graham Sr. Each faces a series of drug-related charges.

The trio is currently held at the Marshall County Jail, with a $100,000 bond assigned to each of them.
