News Now Warsaw

WARSAW — North Pointe Cinemas in Warsaw has a new owner.

Customers of the theater off Husky Trail have been watching for months after it became apparent that the business was for sale.

Those who worried that the business might not continue as the city’s only movie theater complex can relax.

The transaction came to light this week on Facebook, and the new owner, Eric Stevenson, told News Now Warsaw on Thursday that he plans to continue the movie theater tradition.

The business was locally owned for decades by the late Bess Joyner, and Stevenson said he eventually wants to make some changes.

“We do want to do a premium seating experience where we put in the Dolby high-quality sound system with bigger screens with a lot higher definition," Stevenson said.

"For now, we're just going to try to focus on the theater, maybe put some small food establishment on the lots that we did retain, and we're looking to kind of upgrade and see what the theater is going to look like," he said.

The cinema was closed for a short while earlier this year after a water main break damaged carpet in the lobby. Stevenson said no damage was sustained in the individual theaters.

He praised the existing staff and said he expects a seamless transition.

He and his family moved to Warsaw last year after he left a job with a large hospital in Florida that focused on personnel.

On Facebook, he posted an update on Thursday:

"Yes, my wife and I have purchased the movie theater ... and we are ECSTATIC about things to come!"

He added, "We are thankful for all of you that have given your support to North Pointe Cinemas over the years; to our friends, family, and professionals that have helped us through the tricky process; and to the staff and previous owners who have made such an impact on the movie scene in Warsaw. Thank you!"

He also included an invitation to call the theater at 574-267-1985.
