WARSAW — OrthoLazer’s ribbon cutting on Wednesday was both a homecoming for one of its executives and a celebration of the company's growing effort to eliminate society's reliance on opioids.

Wednesday’s ceremony drew a large crowd at its new headquarters and wellness center on Provident Drive across from Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital.

[caption id="attachment_121271" align="alignright" width="181"] Rod Mayer[/caption]

For OrthoLazer CEO Rod Mayer, it marked a return to the orthopedic capital where he spent much of his career in med tech, including the last few years during the maturation of Nextremity Solutions.

Mayer (pronounced like Myer) moved OrthoLazer's headquarters from Rochester, New York, to Warsaw this summer while at the same time guiding the company's expansion.

In addition to the new flagship wellness center that is part of its Warsaw headquarters, the company recently opened its 18th center with one in Sarasota, Florida, featuring its state-of-the-art FDA-approved laser system.

Mayer thanked his team, the community, and investors.

"I'm incredibly passionate about what we're going to build across the United States," Mayer said. "Our mission is to keep every body moving pain-free while championing their personal success."

Scott Sigman, a longtime orthopedic surgeon and founder of the company, saw up close the deadly impact of opioids on his patients.

“Literally, OrthoLazer was born out of the concept of trying to develop a solution to the opioid crisis, and I would venture to guess that almost every single person in this room knows someone who was affected by the opioid crisis.”

Sigman talked about the science behind the laser which provides healing through the power of light.

“If you can shine the right wavelength of light into our cells, we can create a cellular-mediated response that eliminates pain, helps reduce inflammation and it actually is a healing process,” Sigmansaid.

Interest in the product continues to grow as the concept gains credibility.

“I get direct messages from doctors around the world who are interested in our technology and what we are doing,” Sigman said.

Company officials expressed excitement about being part of the community. Mayer said being headquartered in Warsaw allows the company to serve patients while also partnering with orthopedic leaders.

Sigman remarked about the existing hub of technology.

“Really quite remarkable — a city of 15,000 people — yet you really influence the world with the way orthopedic care is provided,” Sigman said.

Staff Report

WARSAW — OrthoLazer, a national network of orthopedic wellness centers, announced a major expansion with the opening of a new corporate headquarters and a flagship OrthoLazer Wellness Center in Warsaw.

The move brings one of the company’s national operations to the heart of the orthopedic industry and provides local patients with access to an innovative, non-invasive laser therapy for pain and inflammation, according to a news release from OrthoLazer.

This expansion brings a significant investment and new jobs to the Warsaw community. It also comes at a critical time for the state. Indiana has been hit hard by the opioid epidemic, with opioid-related overdose deaths accounting for nearly 80% of all drug overdose fatalities in the state in recent years, the release states.

The opening is also timely, following the FDA’s recent update to opioid labeling requirements, which urges clinicians to consider non-opioid therapies first for both acute and chronic pain. This new center aims to be part of the solution by providing a proven, drug-free option for managing pain.

OrthoLazer was founded by Dr. Scott Sigman, an orthopedic surgeon who was moved to act after witnessing the devastating impact of opioid addiction.

“The mission behind OrthoLazer is deeply personal,” said Sigman. “For providers who may be skeptical, it’s important to understand that today’s technology is fundamentally different and offers an evidence-based tool to heal faster with fewer medications. We are proud to bring that mission to Warsaw, a community that understands the importance of innovation in healing.”

OrthoLazer is working with Dr. Mark Klaassen, a strategic advisor and member of the company’s Surgeon Advisory Board, to bring the new center to the community.

“Bringing OrthoLazer’s headquarters to the Orthopedic Capital of the World is a natural fit,” said Klaassen. “The M8 laser is the most advanced robotic laser available, delivering energy deeper into tissue to effectively reduce inflammation. It represents a significant leap forward for our patients and our community.”

OrthoLazer centers use the exclusive M8 Robotic Laser, an FDA-cleared technology that uses specific wavelengths of light to reduce inflammation and accelerate healing at the cellular level. This photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) is used to treat a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions. With 17 centers already open nationwide, the company plans to have hundreds of locations by 2030, anchored by its new headquarters in Warsaw.
The center will start seeing patients on Thursday, Sept. 11.

To celebrate the opening, the company will host a community ribbon-cutting ceremony from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 902 Provident Drive, Suite C. The event is open to the public and will include a tour of the new facility, a demonstration of the laser technology and remarks from Sigman and Klaassen.

WARSAW — OrthoLazer, a retail pain management therapy company headquartered in Rochester, N.Y., is moving its corporate office to Warsaw.

The company is in the midst of expanding, wants to be in the orthopedic capital and is receiving financial support from the city of Warsaw.

OrthoLazer has 17 service centers across the country, but plans to expand to about 300 in seven years, said Dan Stichter, president of the company who was part of a presentation Monday during the Warsaw City Council meeting.

Rod Mayer who became CEO of the company in July and is a former executive with Warsaw-based Nextremity Solutions (and later, Medartis) appears to have been a key cog in the decision to move to Warsaw.

The local office will open with two employees, but that's expected to grow to 14.

The city's Community and Economic Development Director Jeremy Skinner said the payroll for those positions will be around $700,000.

The company also plans to open a laser therapy services center in Warsaw.

“The city’s been wonderful to work with. As we thought about how we might be able to justify the relocation of those headquarters," Stichter said. "These funds are incredibly important and allow us to move forward knowing we have the backing of the city and the community, and, again, introduce this to the orthopedic community and the orthopedic ecosystem at large.”

Officials are still firming up plans for the corporate office.

The company provides pain relief through the power of light, using an M8 Robotic Therapy Laser, according to the firm's website.

Stichter said the therapy, which normally spans a series of weeks, allows people who have had an acute injury, chronic pain or post-operative conditions to help heal and relieve pain.

In exchange, the city is offering a three-year $75,000 forgivable loan that will be similar to ones provided to Nextremity and Mentor Media in recent years, Skinner said.

The money will come from the city’s Economic Development Revolving Loan Fund.

The money will be provided in three increments and could be recouped if OrthoLazer does not meet wage and job figures spelled out in the agreement.

Warsaw City Council unanimously approved two agreements that are part of the financial arrangement.
