WARSAW – The Salvation Army of Kosciusko County is starting a new venture to serve area youth through the Warsaw Music Arts (WMA) program, which kicks off later this month.

The program will offer free music instruction and fun activities for children ages 9 to 17, providing families with a new way to engage their children in enriching activities without stretching their household budget.

An informational orientation meeting will be held at The Salvation Army, at 501 E Arthur St., in Warsaw, on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 5:30 p.m. Families are invited to come and learn more about what the program will offer their children.

The Salvation Army's rich musical heritage dates back to 1879, with brass bands and large choruses sharing the love of music with communities around the world. Warsaw Music Arts will feature brass, guitar, and vocal ensembles and aims to help children grow both musically and spiritually.
"We believe in nurturing the next generation, equipping them with musical skills and deepening their faith journey through the power of music," said Emma Bowyer, WMA Coordinatorfor The Salvation Army.

The WMA program is being made possible through the generous support of The Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary (SAWA) of Kosciusko County.

Limited spots are available, so those interested should fill out the WMA application form, which is available through The Salvation Army's Facebookpage or SAWarsaw.org.

The deadline to apply is Sept. 13.

WARSAW — The Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary provided a grant to provide 200 students K-12 in Kosciusko County with shoes to go back to school.

Vouchers were recently distributed to families in need of new shoes, socks and other items in cooperation with Shoe Sensation, 2884 Frontage Road, Warsaw.

"This outreach has been going on for many years," according to Envoy Sina Locke, Administrator.

"Requests are still coming in so we welcome any further donations for this project,"  she said.

With growing costs, low-income families struggle to ensure their children have everything they need for the new school year.

Shoes are one of the expensive items and everyone has been very grateful for the help, according to Locke.

Donations may be sent to The Salvation Army, 501 E Arthur Street, Warsaw, IN  46580-3003 to help more families.  Place "Shoes" in the memo line.  For more information go to www.sawarsaw.org.
