WARSAW — Kosciusko will see its first significant snowstorm Saturday night, with higher accumulations expected to the northwest.

Snowfall is expected to begin early Saturday afternoon, with 2-4 inches of snow accumulating before nightfall, according to the National Weather Service.

Another 3-7 inches are possible Saturday night, and snow could be heavy at times.

The chances of snow will be 100 percent on Saturday night.

Snow is likely Sunday morning, possibly mixed with rain before 1 p.m., but the chance of rain is only 60 percent.

WARSAW -- Meteorologist Matt Rudkin is predicting five to seven inches of snowfall is possible in Warsaw Wednesday.

Unlike many storms, this system storm will likely dump more snow to the south and to the east of Kosciusko County.

Kosciusko County is under a weather advisory for much of Wednesday, while areas to the east and south are under a winter storm warning.

Snowfall is expected to begin before dawn Wednesday with significant accumulations by the noon hour.

Rudkin predicts Warsaw, Plymouth, Columbia City, Rochester, Ligonier, Ft Wayne, Angola and areas in between will be in that 5-7-inch range, while areas closer to Lake Michigan will be in the 3-5-inch range.

Temperatures will be in the low 30s and upper 20s Wednesday and the wet snow should be perfect for making a snowman, he added.

WARSAW -- The city of Warsaw is changing its holiday trash routes ahead of the upcoming winter storm to allow crews to better focus on keeping roads cleared.

The city announced Friday's trash routes will remain the same. Trash should be set out no later than 7 a.m. on Friday. Residents are encouraged to move cans back in as soon as possible after trash has been picked up to prevent cans from blowing into the street.

The route for Monday will now be picked up on Wednesday.

The route for Tuesday will now be picked up on Thursday.

City offices will be closed on Dec. 26 and 27.

In anticipation of the massive winter storm, the agency is moving to a "Virtual Kettle" to close out its 101st annual bell-ringing campaign.

A QR Code has been set up to direct those who would like to donate to a site for giving. 

"We want people to be safe, including our Bell Ringers, so we are going to this Virtual Kettle for giving," said Envoy Ken Locke.

Giving has been a "little down" this season as well as volunteers even as requests for services are increasing, Locke said.

"We appreciate those who support us to help others not only at Christmas but throughout the year," Locke said.
