BOURBON — North central Indiana was once again hit hard by severe weather — this time on Wednesday night.

This time, strong storms rolled through the town of Bourbon and left behind significant damage.

News Now Warsaw was told downtown Bourbon sustained damage and that roofs were blown off several houses.

Northern Indiana Manufacturing in Bourbon also reportedly sustained heavy damage.

A house collapsed during the storm and a woman was trapped in her car under a fallen tree, according to another report.

And on nearby U.S. 30, part of the highway had to be closed for a while after at least two semis tipped over near Bourbon. The closing stretched from US 331 to SR 19.

The storm struck around 9:30 p.m. but no injuries have yet been reported.

Triton Schools announced schools would be closed on Thursday and that the high school would be used as a shelter for anyone in need.

The following was posted on Triton Schools Facebook page Wednesday night:

"Praying for the families in Bourbon from the storm. We are in close contact with law enforcement as they do their best to reroute traffic, provide assistance to families ..."

The National Weather Service had issued a warning about that storm due to indications of "rotation," but nothing early Thursday morning had been confirmed.

A brief but intense storm on Sunday afternoon killed two people and resulted in widespread tree and electrical line damage that stretched across parts of northern Indiana.

On Monday morning, heavy rain and sporadic hail were reported across parts of north-central and northeast Indiana.

Heavy rainfall Wednesday led to a flood watch, which expired at 4:30 a.m. Thursday.

More rain is expected on Friday and Saturday.

— Sports Director Roger Grossman contributed to this report.

WINONA LAKE -- The Village Art Fair in Winona Lake enjoyed strong crowds this past weekend.

Nick Hauck, manager of The Village at Winona which hosted the event, said visitors showed up early Saturday even as temperatures pushed toward 90 degrees.

"Super crowded -- probably one of the best we've ever had, Hauck said.

The festival also encountered a brief but intense storm around 4 p.m. Saturday.

"We actually lost a vendor -- they lost their tent and some of their products so they had to bow out respectively today. That's the last thing you would ever want to see with the weather," Hauck said Sunday.

"We kind of had to pack up a little bit quickly to shut down with all the hail and crazy wind and torrential rain that we had for seven minutes -- and then it was blue skies again," Hauck said.

Otherwise, it was another strong festival.

Hauck said he thinks the nearby farmer's market at the Miller Sunset Pavilion Saturday morning helped boost traffic at the art festival.

On Saturday, it was crowded enough that finding parking took some patience. The festival provided a free shuttle for those willing to park in a parking lot up on the hill. Grace Village provided the shuffle.

Visitors had their choice of 69 artists' booths to choose from Saturday.

The weekend also marked the return of children's activities on Sunday, Hauk said.
