SOUTH WHITLEY — Local law enforcement has lifted the potential threat involving Whitko Community Schools.

Whitko Community Schools' classes and schedules were expected to resume as normal on Wednesday.

The District closed schools Tuesday because of what local law enforcement calls a “confirmed threat.”

Maintaining a solid sense of safety and security is a priority and we must respond as appropriately as possible when official reports are received, the school said in a post on Facebook.

The decision to close school today came just as employees and children were heading to Whitko schools and everyone's flexibility, patience and understanding is appreciated.

Meanwhile, WOWO Radio reports that  LaGrange County police have released more information about a threat that was made toward Prairie Heights High School over the weekend.

Police were alerted to the threat on Saturday. Law enforcement has identified and addressed the juveniles responsible for making the threats. Those students have been expelled, and the criminal investigation remains active.

While it has been determined that there was no immediate threat to students and staff, police will maintain an increased presence at the school as a precautionary measure.
