News Now Warsaw

WARSAW — Two significant but unrelated road projects are set to begin Monday in Warsaw.

One involves two railroad crossings on the east edge of the downtown, and the other will entail pavement projects on four roads in the heart of the downtown.

Below are recaps of what to expect.

Railroad Crossing projects

Norfolk Southern Railroad plans to begin repairs to railroad crossings at Center Street and Main Street on Monday.

The work will consist of removing poor subgrade, replacing the subgrade, replacing rails, and ultimately new HMA asphalt at each of the crossings.

Both Center Street and Main Street railroad crossings will be closed simultaneously to perform this work as quickly and effectively as possible.

Closures are expected to continue through Friday, Oct. 24

A detour route will direct Center Street traffic south on Scott Street to Winona Avenue west to Detroit Street. Main Street traffic will be able to use Park Avenue to travel north or south.

The city says that motorists will likely experience some delays, but repairs of the crossings are greatly needed and necessary.

Road work ahead

Road improvements to four segments of downtown streets will begin Monday.

Road segments include:

Center Street (From Detroit Street to Indiana Street)

Lake Street (From Center Street to Main Street)

Main Street (From Lake Street to Buffalo Street)

Fort Wayne Street (From Detroit Street to Buffalo Street)

The scope of the work will include the milling, full-depth patching, and paving of the road segments, the city said.

Each will be milled, patched, and paved before the next road segment is started.

Lake Street and Main Street will be done simultaneously.

A news release from the city did not say which work will be done first.

There will be some temporary lane restrictions and road closures on the segments during construction. Some parking stalls will also be closed off during construction.

To minimize the impact, the city has rented 25 parking spaces to be used free of charge at the southeast corner of Main Street and Indiana Street. These parking spaces will be available for through November for downtown patrons.
