<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">SYRACUSE — Turkey Creek Fire Department confirms an apparent drowning happened Friday afternoon on Lake Wawasee.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The incident was reported at 1:52 p.m. of a missing person in the area of the sandbar on Lake Wawasee, the fire department reported in a post on it  Facebook page.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A multi-agency search and rescue response was immediately requested from initial reports, with a unified command post established at the Lake Wawasee Public Access and an operational division working from East Highland View Drive. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">After nearly an hour, the person was found about three feet below the surface in an area of the lake where the water depth was approximately 20 feet. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Crews immediately began lifesaving efforts, but unfortunately, those efforts were unsuccessful.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">TCFT extends our appreciation for the quick response and teamwork from every agency involved today.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The name of the victim has not yet been released.</span></p>
