GOSHEN — Two youths died and two others were seriously injured when a pickup truck crashed into a horse-drawn cart on Friday morning.

According to police, the crash happened around 8 a.m. on State Road 4 just west of County Road 37.

Police said the driver of a pickup truck was heading west on State Road 4 when they hit the back of a westbound horse-drawn cart carrying four juvenile passengers.

According to police, two of the juveniles died at the scene. They have not been identified by name or age.

The other two juveniles were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The pickup truck driver stayed on scene and cooperated with police. No arrests have been made at this time in connection with this crash.

LAFAYETTE — Five people have been arrested in connection with the shooting of Tippecanoe County Judge Steven Meyer and his wife.

Judge Meyer and his wife, Kimberly, were shot on Sunday, Jan. 18, at their home in Lafayette. Court documents state that the shooting came before he was scheduled to preside over a trial involving a high-ranking gang member.

On Thursday, the Lafayette Police Department announced the arrests and charges of three people from Lafayette and two from Lexington, Kentucky:

  • Raylen Ferguson, 38, of Lexington, Kentucky, is accused of knocking on the Meyers’ front door and firing shots that injured them. He’s been charged with attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and several other charges.
  • Thomas Moss, 43, of Lafayette, was charged with attempted murder and a similar set of other charges Ferguson faces.
  • Blake Smith, 32, of Dayton, was charged with attempted murder and other charges for his role in buying the gun used.
  • Amanda Milsap, 45, Lafayette, on suspicion of bribery and obstruction of justice.
  • Zenada Greer, 61, Lexington, Kentucky, on suspicion of assisting a criminal and obstruction of justice.

Agencies from Lafayette, West Lafayette, Tippecanoe County, Purdue University, Allentown, Pennsylvania, and Lexington, Kentucky all helped the Indiana State Police, the U.S. Marshals Service, and the FBI make the arrests.

STATEWIDE — Several tornadoes were reported across multiple Indiana counties on Tuesday, including a large one spotted near Ligonier.

A tornado left two people injured when a horse and buggy tipped over near Ligonier on Tuesday afternoon.

Around 4:30, multiple weather spotters reported a tornado causing damage in Noble and LaGrange counties. The LaGrange County EMA says 28,000 chickens also got loose from a food processing company.

Another twister reportedly touched down near Mishawaka.

The National Weather Service is sending crews out today to determine the strength of the tornadoes.

The Weather Service issued Tornado Warnings for Noble, LaGrange, and Steuben counties, lasting until around 6:15 p.m.

"It's a little easier to confirm tornadoes when you have video," said Megan Dodson of the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana. "Video helps rule out straight-line winds, allowing us to confirm if it was a tornado."

The tornado near Ligonier was captured on video by weather spotters and observed at 4:25 p.m., moving northeast, according to the National Weather Service.

"We did have an active spring," Dodson said. "This is one of the most active seasons that I can remember, including this outbreak here."
