INDIANAPOLIS — Bob Kevoian, longtime co‑host and co‑founder of “The Bob & Tom Show,” died at 75.

Kevoian died Friday at his home after receiving treatment for gastric cancer. He announced the diagnosis in 2023 and later created a podcast to document his experience.

Kevoian launched “The Bob & Tom Show” with Tom Griswold in Indianapolis in 1983.

The program entered national syndication in 1995 and grew into one of the most widely distributed morning radio shows in the country. It aired on hundreds of stations and built a large national audience over several decades.

Kevoian retired from the show in 2015. That same year, the National Radio Hall of Fame inducted him. Over his career, the program earned multiple industry honors, including the Marconi Award and the Kurt Vonnegut Humor Award.

Before his diagnosis, Kevoian stayed involved in creative projects and continued to appear at industry events. After retiring, he spent much of his time traveling with his wife, Becky, and camping in their Airstream RV.

Memorial service details are expected to be announced later.

Donnie Burgess

INDIANAPOLIS — Libertarian candidate for governor Donald Rainwater is not happy about being excluded from one of two upcoming debates this fall.

Republican Senator Mike Braun and Democrat Jennifer McCormick will participate in two governor debates this fall, with one debate broadcast on FOX59/CBS4 and the other on WISH-TV, both in Indianapolis.

[caption id="attachment_93936" align="alignright" width="150"] Rainwater[/caption]

Rainwater, also on the ballot, will participate in the WISH-TV debate. However, at the time of this writing, Rainwater will not be apart of the FOX59/CBS4 debate.

Rainwater tells WIBC's Kendall and Casey show this is offensive to the voters who turned out to support him in 2020 and today, "obviously voters feel that what we have to say is not only valid but preferred."

Rainwater claims that he has not had any communication with FOX59/CBS4 or the Indiana Debate Commission regarding that debate, and that he should have the same opportunity to speak to voters and potential voters on the same stage as the top Democrat and Republican contenders.

Rainwater says the debate was an issue in 2020 because early voters didn't get the chance to hear his positions first, and he wants to avoid any issues with debates this time around.

"Evidently, someone has decided the Indiana Debate Commission and their policy of allowing all balloted candidates to participate in the debates just isn't acceptable anymore," Rainwater explains.

Rainwater tells WIBC if Senator Braun truly believes in spirited competition, he should welcome the opportunity to debate issues live in front of a viewing audience. But Rainwater says if Braun is "getting his way" behind the scenes and preventing him from debating, then he questions Braun's potential leadership ability as a governor.

"We received, to my knowledge, we received any invitation from WISH-TV and we accepted it," Rainwater continues, "we have not received any invitation, nor to my knowledge have we received any delineation of the exact requirements or criteria, for the FOX59/CBS4 debate."

The FOX59/CBS4 debate is set for October 1st. The WISH-TV debate is set for October 3rd.

BEECH GROVE, Ind. — The crime in Indianapolis is spreading and hurting other communities, says Beech Grove Mayor Dennis Buckley.

"We've had the double shooting at Night Owls, double shooting at Silver Bullet, we had a double shooting at the Beech Grove Bowl, and someone stabbed in the face at Greatimes. All within the last two months," says Mayor Buckley on WIBC's Hammer and Nigel show.

Buckley says this isn't normal for the Beech Grove area, and he believes it's due to the combination of disrespect for police, accused criminals being let back out on the street, and what Buckley believes may be a fear to do their job on the cop's part.

"And it's not Beech Grove people who are doing this," Buckley explains, "It's people coming in from the outside, especially the east side of Indianapolis. It is a major, major challenge and it's something that, hey you know what, as a police chief, you're going to have to address this and you're going to have to get tough to keep this out."

The mayor recently commented that police need to get back to being tough on criminals. Buckley clarified that police should be tougher because they're running into repeat, violent offenders on the street.

He explains to Hammer & Nigel, "I'm not saying go out and hit people in the head and beat them up. I'm just saying the police have to be the police. Society today, there's so many people against the police that the police may be afraid to do anything."

Buckley says prosecutors can't keep allowing offenders off with light sentences, or the problem will continue.
