WARSAW — A Kosciusko County precinct committeman with a famous political name is the fourth person to enter the upcoming GOP caucus for an at-large county council seat.

Travis Trump, 48, of Winona Lake, announced his filing on Thursday

Others who have already filed to run include Will Stockdale, Kyle Tom and Rob Parker.

He said he grew up outside of Claypool and attended Whitko High School.

He’s a graduate of Indiana University-Bloomington and works in human resources for an orthopedic firm.

He said he especially likes the idea of serving the entire county as an at-large candidate and is eager to work with others, including constituents, on setting policies that benefit the county.

“How can we best use our financial resources and stretch and make them go as far as we can to just continue to make things better for our county?” Frump said.

While having the same last name as the current US president catches some people off guard, he admits it’s not really a factor in the race, which is his first bid for elected office.

“My family has been here for multiple generations. I’ve always been proud of my name,” Trump said.

If anything, the name provides one slight benefit.

“Maybe people will notice it a little quicker, and that’s fine,” he said. That gives me an opportunity to tell them about me and what I want to do with politics.”

There’s still a week left for others to file. Deadline is Feb. 7, and caucus is set for Feb. 10 at the Kosciusko County Courthouse.
