A newly released report on the bus crash in Argos reveals the truck driver’s vision may have been obstructed.

It was back on December 5 when Tylor Perry’s flatbed truck hit a school bus, killing 13-year-old Owen Abbott and causing a 14-year-old student to be airlifted to the hospital.

The bus from Winamac Community Middle School was heading to the Warsaw Performing Arts Center as part of a field trip.

Our news partners at WNDU obtained the crash report for the incident, which says Perry claims he was trying to take off a sweatshirt and a fleece jacket as he approached the railroad tracks.

“He pulled the clothing over his head and briefly took his eyes off the roadway,” the crash report reads. “After he looked back up, he was unable to stop prior to striking the school bus.”

A passenger corroborates that story, saying he saw Perry trying to take off the fleece jacket before the collision.

Police say Perry rear-ended the bus, then the truck went into the passing lane before hitting the center of the driver’s side of the bus again.

WNDU reports Perry did not test positive for alcohol or illegal drugs the day of the crash.
