Two firefighters in hospital after Elkhart building goes up in flames

Two firefighters are hospitalized after a vacant building fire in Elkhart Sunday afternoon. One has a leg injury, the other is suffering from exhaustion/over heating.

Elkhart fire officials say they received multiple calls about the fire at the 2800 block of Oakland Avenue around 3:20 p.m. They also say no one was in the building at that time.

Neighbors say they heard a loud booming sound before the fire started. A fire investigator is on the scene to determine the cause and origin of the blaze.
