Two Injured In Saturday Crash

A Claypool man and a Goshen woman were injured in a two-vehicle accident Saturday near Millersburg.

Christopher Briscoe, 40, Claypool, the driver of a 2015 Jeep Patriot, suffered minor leg lacerations. A passenger in his vehicle, Cheyenne Shelp, 31, Goshen, was taken to the hospital by ambulance for belly pain, according to an Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office crash news release.

No injuries to the driver of the other vehicle – Willard Troyer, 27, Nappanee – were reported. Troyer was driving a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta.

The accident occurred at 3:29 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of U.S. 6 and Ind. 13, 4.7 miles south of the town limits of Millersburg.

The release states that Briscoe’s Jeep Patriot was facing south on Ind. 13 at the intersection with U.S. 6. Troyer’s Jetta was traveling west on U.S. 6. Briscoe’s vehicle entered the intersection to turn left (west) in front of the path of Troyer’s Jetta. The front end of the Jetta hit the driver’s side of the Jeep, causing damage to both vehicles.

The Jeep had heavy driver’s side damage, while the Jetta had heavy front-end damage.

Briscoe, Shelp and Troyer were wearing seatbelts.

Briscoe was cited for disregarding a stop sign causing injury, according to the release. Troyer was cited for driving while suspended.
