Unemployment takes big drop in Kosciusko County from April to May

Unemployment rates in Kosciusko County fell nearly ten percent in the May jobs report from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

The new data, which was released on Monday, shows the May unemployment rate at 8.8 percent, down from April’s mark of 18.5 percent, but still significantly higher than one year ago, when unemployment was 2.5 percent. Kosciusko County’s unemployment rate in May was among the ten best in the state, with southern Indiana’s Daviess County having the best rate in the state at 5.6 percent.

Kosciusko County also saw one of the greatest improvement among neighboring counties, with Elkhart and Noble Counties having the biggest drops. Unemployment in Elkhart County went from 28.6 percent in April to 11.9 percent in May, while Noble County went from 28.1 percent to 16.2 percent.
