UPDATE: Tiffany Alberts charged with attempted murder of teenage son with leukemia

A former Warsaw Community Schools employee is charged with attempted murder after telling authorities she purposely injected fecal matter into her son’s IV tube while he was undergoing treatment for leukemia.

The new charge was filed Friday against 41-year-old Tiffany Alberts, Wolcott. She was charged Nov. 22 with six counts of aggravated battery and neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury.

Alberts worked for Warsaw Community Schools, as well as other school systems, according to Dr. David Hoffert, Warsaw Schools Superintendent.  Alberts worked as a teacher and assistant girl’s basketball coach for WCS.

Court documents say staff at Indianapolis’ Riley Hospital for Children contacted police after the 15-year-old boy developed several infections.

Undercover surveillance was placed in the teen’s hospital room and a nurse observed Alberts injecting his IV bag with an unknown substance. Alberts told police she began injecting the fecal matter on Nov. 13 in hopes to get him moved to another unit where she thought he would receive better treatment.

A message seeking comment was left for Alberts’ attorney, according to the associated press.
