Update: Warsaw Fire Victim Identified

Update: KCSD Press Release- The Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office with assistance of forensic dentist, Dr. Craig Nelson, has identified the victim involved in a residential fire in Warsaw. On Friday, December 19th, 2014 a residential duplex fire occurred at 1031 E. Smith Street at approximately 11:14 p.m. Once Warsaw Wayne Fire Territory was on scene, a preliminary search, during extinguishment, was conducted by firefighters, and a deceased female was found inside the residence. Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office along with Warsaw Police Department, Kosciusko County Crime Scene Investigators, Indiana State Fire Marshal Investigator and Kosciusko County Fire Investigation Team completed a preliminary investigation of the scene. The victim was removed from the scene and transported to Northeast Indiana Forensic Center, in Fort Wayne, where an autopsy was performed today, Monday December 22nd, 2014. Positive identification was completed and the female is identified as Sarah J. Gibbs, 34 years of age, who was the renter of the residence. The investigation into the fire cause and origin continues.

Original: KCSD Press Release- Last night, December 19, 2014 at 11:14 p.m. Warsaw Wayne Fire Territory responded to a residential fire in the 1000 block of E. Smith Street in Warsaw. A fatality was discovered in the residence and is currently under investigation by the Warsaw Wayne Fire Territory, Warsaw Police Department, Kosciusko Squad 70 Fire Investigation Team, Indiana State Fire Marshal’s office, and the Kosciusko County Coroner’s office. An autopsy will be performed early next week and it is believed that the identity of the victim will be released late Monday or Tuesday, once a positive identification of the victim has been made. The origin of the fire is still under investigation and additional information regarding the incident will be released as the investigation progresses.
