The year 1777 saw the first go at the use of the new postcard invention, but people were weary of household staff reading their messages so the idea was not well received. Over time, they became a unique way to receive messages especially regarding travel experiences to loved ones left behind. Then they took a back seat to electronic forms of instantly sharing travel stories. However, just before the pandemic, there was a surge in post card usage in the world.

Digital overload has driven the popularity of postcard usage up and for a variety of reasons. Postcards are the perfect collectible souvenir to enrich travel experiences. Many people use them to send to themselves when traveling as a form of journaling. They are used for visiting friends and family, as fun ways to communicate with pen pals, for leisure, group, and business visitors, as thank you notes, and as a more affordable way of communicating since postcards stamps are less. Postcards symbolize pride in place.

The Kosciusko County Convention and Visitors Bureau has recently created 22 new postcard designs. There are design options available for State of Indiana, Kosciusko County, and communities. The card designs can be viewed at VisitKosciuskoCounty.org/visitor-center/.

“A common inquiry by visitors and locals alike at the visitor center is for postcards. We felt it was time to create new designs with the excellent photography we have from local photographers and include community cards along with scenic and the popular State of Indiana card. It is just another way to display the pride we have for beautiful Kosciusko County,” said, Jill Boggs, Chief Executive Officer of the Kosciusko County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Cards are for sale at the visitor center in Warsaw for $1.00 each or six for $5.00. They can be purchased in person during hours or arrangements can be made to have them mailed.
