Warsaw Community High School girls’ cross country coach resigns

Matt Campbell informed the Warsaw Community High School athletic department Tuesday, Dec. 19, that he is resigning as girls’ cross country coach.

Campbell, a former Tiger cross country runner himself, served as coach for three successful seasons over a span of 4 years.

Campbell stepped in as interim coach in 2014 while Head Coach Scott Erba took a leave of absence, and he led the Lady Tigers to a Co-Northern Lakes Conference championship, sectional and regional titles and a state finals qualification, where they finished 16th.

In Campbell’s first official season as head coach in the fall of 2016, the Lady Tigers completed a run of three consecutive Northern Lake Conference titles, then backed that up with sectional and regional titles, a third-place finish in the semi-state and 13th place finish at the state cross country finals in Terre Haute.

Last fall, they finished second in the NLC, came home as Culver Academy sectional and regional champions and placed ninth in the New Prairie Semi-state.

The search for a new coach is underway.
