Warsaw-Wayne Fire Chief begins new role today

WARSAW — Warsaw Wayne Fire Territory has a new fire chief beginning today.

Joel Shilling, a graduate of Warsaw Community High School who was recently promoted as fire marshal for the territory, was hired last wek as the new fire chief of the Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory.

Warsaw Mayor Jeff Grose made the announcement Friday through a news release.

Shilling replaces Chief Brian Mayo, who resigned earlier this year effective May 1.

Shilling has been with the department for eight years.

Shilling has served as a volunteer for Plain Township/Leesburg Fire Department for 12 years, serving as firefighter, lieutenant, captain, assistant chief and most recently as chief, the release states.

The WWFT has a staff that includes 33 employees including firefighters and administrative personnel.

The territory will now seek to hire a new fire marshal.
